What is Jingdezhen Porcelain?

What is Jingdezhen Porcelain? Is it a luxury item or just an ordinary product?

If it is an ordinary product, why is one of the most expensive art ever to come under the hammer.

If it is a luxury product, why is in every household?

Based on my study and real-life experience in JDZ, I’d like to talk about it shortly.

First of all, JDZ is one of the world’s first industrial cities. Porcelain has been one of the main pillar industries in JDZ since ancient times.

Secondly, the inherent properties of porcelain are diverse, such as ornamental value and practicability. They were imperial tribute articles to the Chinese emperors, but they also were articles of daily use in average family.

Lastly, Europeans had no idea what porcelain was until they saw Chinese porcelain which was around 16th century. As the time goes by, the aristocrats and merchants of England became increasingly hungry for Chinese porcelain, in this regard, JDZ porcelain had played a huge influence on that. Around 18th century, Europeans went mad about it, they went bust, and wasted their wealth for JDZ porcelain.
